Spartan Shops, Inc., an auxiliary organization located on the SJSU campus, has the following opportunity immediately available: SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR. This is a FULL TIME, regular benefited opportunity, an exempt level position.
POSITION SUMMARY: Under general direction of the Network Operations Manager, the Systems Administrator is responsible to administer, support and direct hardware platforms, operating systems, and their related products and technologies on a 24 hours per day, 7 days per week basis. The Incumbent will ensure high standards for system uptime, availability, and performance. The Incumbent will also establish, document, and maintain technology roadmaps, strategies, standards, best practices, procedures, processes, and guidelines. Systems include but are not limited to Windows; Mail services; web services; and LINUX servers. The incumbent is also the primary back up to the IT Operations Specialist in their absence.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
1. Responsible for all Spartan Shops systems implementation and administration including, but not limited to, domain services, Email, calendaring, Web Services, Point of Sale, file services, ldap, radius, and ACS.
2. Responsible for the installation, maintenance, backup, security, performance monitoring, testing, and integrity of the operating system.
3. Ensure system availability and integrity on 24 hours per day by 7 days per week basis, including monitoring documentation, fault management and alert requirements to support the operations.
4. Responsible for monitoring and maintaining card add value machines and printing systems.
5. Install, configure, secure and support all hardware platforms, operating systems and related products and technologies for Spartan Shops, Inc.
6. Develop, document, and maintain system and technology roadmaps, strategies, standards, best practices, procedures, processes, and guidelines. Provide performance monitoring and tuning. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve system problems
7. Provide hardware/software, testing, configuration and release management, including DNS systems and services.
8. Provide disk storage planning and capacity planning and direction.
9. Provide direction to Help Desk and Operations team in addressing and resolving day-to-day issues. Escalation support as appropriate.
10. Provide, Monitor, and maintain Web Services and presence for Spartan Shops including but not limited to IIS, Apache
11. Repackage software to rollout using AD Group policy (Microsoft Windows and SMS or other deployment applications)
12. Provide technical and professional leadership, guidance, and training to others. Incumbent will lead, influence, consult, and mentor, as appropriate.
EQUIPMENT, MACHINES, TOOLS, SPECIAL MATERIALS USED: Personal computers, various productivity software (word processing, database/spreadsheet programs, etc.), network testing equipment; telephone, facsimile machine, calculator, copy machine, security alarms. Occasionally operates company owned vehicles.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Working hours will include early mornings, late evenings, and some weekends. Stands, walks, bends, reaches or lifts most of working day. Frequent lifting of up to 40 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 75 pounds required. Required to work inside cold rooms. Much of the work will involve looking at computer monitors for most of the working day.
INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Interacts with own, as well as Spartan Shops management staff, and students. Establishes and maintains effective communications with customers, vendors, and clients.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS include:
1. 3+ years as Systems Administrator for medium to large business entities, along with certification in Microsoft, with an emphasis on Exchange. 5+ years in same capacity strongly preferred
2. Strong technical working knowledge and hands-on experience at medium to large corporate environments, including:
3. Demonstration of a broad understanding of information technologies, including but not limited to, clustering, SAN, networking, backup, data replication at the system level, High Availability systems, Disaster Recovery, and Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS).
4. Strong hands-on technical experience working with Linux, Unix, Macintosh, and Windows 2000 and above operating systems within a clustered, redundant and load balanced environment.
5. Expert level knowledge of DNS on all platforms.
6. Expert level knowledge in deployment of backup software for all critical business applications.
7. Expert level knowledge of IP networking and security principles (e.g. authorization, authentication).
8. Expert level knowledge of IIS 5.0 and 6.0, FrontPage, Dream weaver, and other web technologies.
9. Hands-on experience in programming fundamentals including demonstrated knowledge of VB 6.0, .Net, Perl, WSH, ASP, JS.
10. Hands on experience in designing and programming Web pages using FrontPage, Dream weaver, and other web technologies.
11. Fundamental understanding of Oracle, SQL server 2000, and SQL.
12. Demonstrated hands-on use of Windows repackaging tools
13. Networking knowledge of switches and routers with ability to troubleshoot basic connectivity problems.
14. Solid oral, written, and presentation skills are essential; ability to give and receive information, explain difficult information in laymans terms, and maintain a customer service orientation towards all levels of users and customers, internal and external
15. Able to lead and manage technical projects, which includes developing project plans and milestones, and providing accurate estimates of timelines and cost estimates necessary to complete potential projects.
16. Able to create, maintain, and foster professional and productive working relationships with all levels of users, customers, and vendors, internal and external; able to work independently and to resourcefully resolve complex technical problems; able to multi-task and prioritize tasks as circumstances change.
Education: MIS, CS, or Engineering or equivalent degree from an accredited college or university; Linux certification preferred. Masters Degree in MIS, CS, or Business strongly preferred
The compensation range for this opportunity is mid 60K to high 70K, DOQ/E.
