Poetry Troupe at the 2004 Cambridge Poetry Awards is coming to the Zeitgeist Gallery,
Inman Square, Cambridge, every Tuesday from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Called Off Broadway Poetry last winter when they appeared once a week
at Jimmy Tingle’s Off Broadway Theater in Somerville, Dr. Brown’s Traveling Poetry Show
engages audiences from all over the house and from every aspect of human experience.
Thrill to a biker roaring past the pearly gates or Evel Knievel not
making it across the Snake River Canyon. Agonize over a hummingbird trapped in a circus tent or
enjoy a butterfly smashed in reincarnated revenge. Walk down the street in your new car or take a
shortcut through a backyard in Newton. Visit the dentist, the hardware store, the book of African
American poetry, or simply look in the mirror.
Experienced performance poets who include teacher Douglas Bishop,
madman Jeff Taylor, EMT Simone Beaubien, frightening Ryk McIntyre, chain saw-wielding Valerie
Lawson, and lost soul Alex Charalambides join newcomer scientist Mala Radhakrishnan, stage struck
Melissa
Guillet, high-energy Gary Hoare, the mysterious Bizzoc 7, and others under Dr. Brown’s directorial
lash to
finish their show before the audience can catch up, so it keeps them awake during the show and
after
they turn out the light that night.
